Deconstruction. It’s something that has been quite the buzz word in the Christian community lately. It grew in popularity as doubting Christians finally asking the questions they ached to ask for so long. adolescents moved out, began to realize there was a world outside of their hometown church.

Have you ever had something begin to pop up in your life over and over? Like a recurring dream in real life? It enters your mind and then you see it everywhere — tv shows, in your relationships, books, billboards. When I was religious I would have said this was the holy spirit telling me something, but now I’m afraid it’s just my conscious telling me there’s more healing to be done.

Purity culture. I’ve spoken on it before, but for this post, I want to focus on a specific aspect of purity culture that is especially harmful.

We are not saviors. White saviorism has been put in the spotlight recently, and it deserves the light. White saviorism is based in the idea, whether conscious or subconscious, that being white makes one superior to those of different races. Ironically, this feeling of being superior simply comes from oppression. White people oppressed those of other ethnicities, and then gave themselves a golden star for “saving them.”

Times are weird, and especially on social media. for me personally, I have found that exposure to negativity, stressful news, or intense debates on social media is directly correlated to an increase in my anxiety. This is true at any time in history, but specifically right now with how chaotic and scary the news is.

Hi friends, how are you doing? I know this time is so chaotic, and I know everyone is coping in very different ways. I think the hardest part of this time is everyone is experiencing this phenomena for the first time. There is no older friend that you can go to for advice. Everyone is ignorant and under-prepared. So, for me, I am taking everything one step at a time. I think that’s the only way to stay sane right now.

Hi friends, This is a weird time. I think that goes without saying. This entire situation is unprecedented, and unexpected. There have been disasters in states, countries, towns, etc, but for something this big to be global - it hasn’t happened in a long while. I know different people are struggling with different aspects of this.

Since the emergence of the “me too” movement, consent has been a popular topic of conversation. In my opinion, consent is one of the most important aspects of human interaction, and is one of the topics that has the least amount of healthy education surrounding it. I won’t speak for any of you, but as a female who grew up in a christian culture that was so terrified of sex, I was never educated on consent. However, here is the huge misconception surrounding consent: It. is. not. just. about. sex!!!!

Most humans either raised within the conservative Christian environment or involved in religion in some way or another are familiar with this culture, although many are unaware of the dangers within it. However, it is also so important to clarify that this culture, although most popular within the Christian context, is not limited to only the Christian religion nor religion in itself.

Shame. Unfortunately, shame is at the center of modern Christianity. from a young age, most churches teach children to look down upon premarital sex, the use of substances, any sexuality other than heterosexuality, masturbation, and even at times, the mentally ill. Depending on how you were raised and what experiences you have had with Christianity, I am sure you can add and subtract from this list. However, the gist is that unfortunately, shame is a huge part of the Christian culture.

The #metoo movement exposed the great misogyny and history of abuse in our culture, but it also revealed some serious cracks within the church community. I think for years, people have talked quietly about the abuse that has occurred, with the Catholic church being the in the spotlight of that narrative, but the other abuse has been quieted.

Queerness. It has always been a controversial topic, but the conversation has intensified over the past 10 years. If you grew up in a Christian circle or if you have ever spoken with Christian about the queer lifestyle, chances are, you received the typical, “it’s a sin. they go to hell,” response. Now I am going to be brutally honest in this post, even if it reflects poorly on me. However, in order to be honest, i need to be vulnerable and open about my past beliefs.

My journey to natural skincare has been a bumpy one - both financially and physically! Ihave tried some products that are amazing, but much too expensive. Other products end up messing up my skin even more! And then I found Primally Pure.

So - veganism. Veganism has become an ever-growing trend in the past few years. Documentaries have been released, memes have been passed around — it’s all over the place! Some have strong feelings against it, while others are very strong advocates.

So, this post will be a little different than some of my other posts. Since going public with my experience with sexual assault, I have received a myriad of responses - and very few have been appropriate. So, I thought I would make a little “how-to” guide that helps you figure out what not to say to a sexual assault survivor.

Animals - they’re pretty fucking cute. And they deserve to be treated well! in the beauty industry, so many animals are tested on, simply for our benefit. They have no say and no rights - all so that we can wear that perfect shade of lipstick.

I have spoken many times about how my perfectionism and shame driven brain have caused me pain and distress – but I haven’t spoken before about how they have impacted my ability to love and care for myself. I try to write about my perfectionistic personality because I think for many, it is misunderstood.
